September 4, 2007 Newsletter #59 from the Moores.
Dear Family and Friends,
Greetings from the West Coast of the U.S.A!
It has been a little longer in between our newsletters this last time. We left Guinea at the end of June, just in time to arrive in the States for a bi-annual convention. Two days prior to the convention we attended an International Congress and there were leaders from 38 different nations around the world there. How exciting that was! One of our pastors from Guinea, Pastor Joseph Kofta Camara, was able to attend the convention. (Everything had to be translated for him in French.) It was his first time in the States. One afternoon we went into a Wal-Mart store with him and some of the other international guests. We wanted him to see the store as nothing like that exists in Guinea! He walked around for a bit with Tom and when Tom asked him if he would like a new shirt he replied, “No, I don’t need a new shirt.” He did need a new shirt but it was way too overwhelming for him to see so much new clothing in one place. However, when one of our sons went with him to a second hand store a few days later he enjoyed rummaging through the racks choosing out the brightest colored shirts and outfits for his family back in Guinea!
We have a special prayer request. We have received word from several friends in Guinea that things are heating up in the political realm again. There was rioting in the main market last week and there has been guns going off again. The Moslem holy month of Ramadan starts in two weeks and things always heat up during that month as the people can’t eat or drink during the day (They aren’t even supposed to swallow their own saliva!) but after the sun goes down they eat and party until day break. One of the big problems is that the price of food is still high. The government has not lowered the prices as they said they would back in February. The people are hungry and it is getting more difficult to feed their children. The prime minister who was put in office in February has tried to help the country but his hands are tied and the word going around in the neighborhoods is that if the prices don’t go down in the next week or two major fighting, rioting and strikes will break out again. Please pray for peace in Guinea and that God will give the government wisdom to resolve this situation!
Please continue to pray for Had also. The family she was staying with left her in the capital city with their five year old son and they went to the forest region to see about a new job for the husband. They have been gone for several months now and the little boy has been diagnosed with typhoid fever. The treatment for this is very expense and a doctor friend of the family (who was to look after the boy) has refused to provide the medicine needed to treat the child. Had has done her best to buy some medicine but the child is not recovering and she asks for special prayer for the little boy. She still does not know where her daughter was sent and her son is to be sent to another town to a Koranic School soon. Pray that God will miraculously heal the little boy in her care and that God would continue to protect her and her children and provide for her every need.
We covet your prayers as we start itinerating in the churches in Washington and Oregon this week. Pray for safety for us on the roads and that God will stir the hearts of the people with a renewed vision for lost souls!
Once again we thank you for your prayers and financial support for God’s work in Africa! We couldn’t do it without you. Our constant prayer is that God will be with each of you and strengthen you to reach out to those He places in your path!
In His Service,
Tom and Sherry Moore
