Harvestland 3rd Annual Chili Cook Off
Sunday February 21st 2010
Harvestland had their 3rd Annual Chili Cook Off on Sunday February 21st at the church, following our morning service. There were nine contestants that entered this event; Kathy Ellison, James Ellison, Rita Glassford, Lynn Lewis, Chris Kochan, Willis Greer, Summer Posey, Heather Freeman and Marg Henderson, who was our 2nd Annual Chili Cook Off “Champion” and was proudly there defending her title this year. All of the contestants’ chili was very delicious, along with all the fixings, cornbread, cookies, coffee, and punch. We had a great turn out for this event. The winner of this year’s chili cook off was decided by a five panel judging system. Each judge tasted the contestants’ chili and rated it from 1 to 5. After that, all contestants ratings from each judge were tallied up and the top four places were announced. . The top four places were announced:
4th place - a tie between Chris Kochan and Heather Freeman
3rd place - James Ellison
2nd place – our defending champion Marg Henderson
And our winner!
1st place - Summer Posey Harvestland 3rd Annual Chili Cook Off “Champion”.

Congratulations Summer and all of the other contestants on a great job. I want to personally thank Rita Glassford and Rosemary Thomas for helping me put this event together. I also want to thank all the contestants, everyone that made cookies and prepared food, those who helped with setting up and taking down tables and chairs, and the clean-up.
Everyone had a great time and we are looking forward to next year.
Sincerely,
James Ellison

Coming 1st and 2nd of August - The Gathering
Josh Eliis of New LifeTabernacle Church in Petersburg (and Masters Commision) will be coming with the Gathering. The Gathering will lead worship for the Dumps to Diplomas Payatas event (August 1st) and will be worshiping again with us at service on Sunday the 2nd.
Let's talk for a minute about "praise and worship." When the band starts playing, you will probably notice that the place is not exactly like a particular kind of church or what you’re used to church being like (especially if you’re used to being able to sleep during church). We come from a lot of different backgrounds, and that diversity really makes nlcc unique. But most of us have one thing in common…we’re excited about what God’s doing in our lives. Some of us have been set free from life controlling vices, some have had life-changing moments with Him, others have had deep emotional scars healed, and the list goes on. God has been so good to us it makes us want to express our appreciation and love to Him in whatever way we can.
Josh is the College and Career Pastor at New Life:
The College Ministry at New Life Tabernacle exists to provide an opportunity for college-age people (student or working, married or single) to continue to grow in their faith during these years instead of abandoning it. By offering various opportunities to explore their faith, nlcc (New Life College and Career) strives to be the bridge that many young adults will cross in their journey toward a personal faith in Christ.
Seniors Picnic 2009 - another great time.
I was honored to be invited to the Seniors picnic again this year. It was a great time of fellowship, birthday celebration and singing, not to mention the wonderful spread of food we all enjoyed (many thanks to Signa for working so hard at the grill!)

Great Lakes Master's Commission
This sunday (April 26th) representatives will be coming to speak to us from the Great Lakes Master's Commision.
Master’s Commission is a one to two-year church based discipleship program for young people transitioning from high school to young adulthood. The program involves living with a Christian host family while participating full-time in discipleship classes/activities, INSTE courses, service projects, and church and ministry outreach.
At GLMC, we endeavor to discover the art of launching lives into the destiny God has called them to. We believe there is a world out there worth winning and that our students can be the very ones to win it. Coming to Master's Commission is not only an experience of a lifetime; it's an avenue to be launched into the very life God has called you to.
Why GLMC?
One word can answer that question: Purpose. Without it, life is meaningless. However, most people today are simply looking for direction. Direction can take you many places, but only purpose can take you where you need to go. This is why we go to such great lengths to ensure that our students graduate with a firm grasp on God's purpose for their life. Whether you want to go on to college or jump straight into a career, Master's Commission won't delay your process. With credit transfers and job skill preparation, GLMC works to your advantage, keeping you on track with whatever future plans God has in store for you.

Joint evening praise Greater Harvest and Harvestland. (March 22nd)
What a beautiful evening of fellowship and praise. (hear it here)
Our evening started off with a potluck dinner with Pastor Kevin and Julia Christmon's Greater Harvest Church congregation. We had a great meal with wonderful fellowship followed by an evening full of worship and praise.
Julia Christmon, her praise team and musicians blessed us with various worship songs and instrumentals. We ended our evening with our own Harvestland worship team led by Willis Greer with Greater Harvest joining us.
What a blessed time in the Lord. We plan to have many more fellowships in the future.
The Lord is good!
By: Kathy Ellison
(We were also treated to a great saxophone duet from our own Kathy Ellison and Pastor Christmon and a great special from them joined by Pastor’s Christmon’s son. What tremendous gifts God has given these people and we are so very thankful that they shared them with us.)
Saturday & Sunday 17th-18th January
The search is over and the Lord has sent us a wonderful family to minister and bless our family at Harvestland. Pastor Peter Freeman came to Harvestland this past weekend to meet the members and to preach for us. The proceeding vote was confirmation that the Lord had brought his body together with 100% of the attending members checking a resounding YES!

Fantastic Blessing (Sunday Service): Sunday October 12th
Today Brother Christmon came with some of his worship team, they blessed us by joining in worship and by leading us in a spirit filled and blessed song that moved the congregation and fired pastor up for his second to last sermon. So many members commented on how blessed the service was. We learned today that Pastor Christmon lost his job, please pray for the right opportunity for our brother.
